Landing Lights
Manchester Quad Night again, a different year this time, Ian Morrison G4DMU, was hidden on an island in the stream south of Bramley near Stockport. Wire had been strung through the rhododendrons all round the park area, whist they sat on the island. Chris Plummer had brought his latest night-time aid, a 45W hand held halogen spot light, run from a Nicad pack on his belt. This proved a great assistance in finding and following the wire antenna, but got a cry of pain from the transmitter crew when shone on them from a range of only 4’. Statements alone the line of ‘Turn that thing off, before the aeroplanes from Ringway land on us’ It was rather bright and Chris could understand the comment as they were located under the flight path, as the planes approached Manchester Ringway, at only 500’ above the ground.
